Anaeropic Reactor with an Immobilized Bed1. Outline
This equipment is a high temperature anaerobic reactor (operated at a temperature of approximately 55ºC) and has the orderly packed porous ceramic carriers with comb shaped teeth. As the structure can carry the anaerobic bacillus in a very high density, it has a very high treating capacity. This system consists of the reactor main body, a water supply equipment, a heat maintaining equipment and a gas treating equipment as shown in Fig.2. The gas can be used as fuel or for a gas power plant if required.
2. Features
1) As it is based on the high temperature immobilized bed process, it can treat a very large, stably. As its maximum load is as large as 70 kgBOD/(m3
d) it is very compact in comparison to conventional requirements.
2) The ceramic carrier used as the packing material has fine pores which are suitable for the growth of highly active bacteria.
3) The organic substances are highly decomposed to from gas and hence the amount of sludge formed is very low. As well, the gas obtained is combustible, making it very useful.
3. Applications
The following types of wastewater are suitable for treatment by this reactor.
A highly concentrated wastewater having a BOD concentration of 5000 mg/l or higher.
(Wastewater from foodstuff plants such as soybean soup, soybean whey wastewater and highly concentrated beer wastewater.)
