1. Summary

The system, packed with self-solidified granular biomass of anaerobic bacteria having a diameter of 1 to 3mm, can decompose BOD content and simultaneously separate solid from liquid by passing raw wastewater through its reactor upward. It can operate under a BOD load on unit volume of reactor ten times greater than that of activated sludge process equipment.
TROLL^® has a special construction so that the growth of biomass and solid-liquid separation are effectively realized in solid-liquid separation section.

2. Feature

1) Required installation space is very small because there is no need of sedimentation tank, and also because it can be operated under a-high BOD load on unit volume of reactor of 10 kg/(m³d) or more.
2) Running cost can be largely reduced because it does not require aeration and methane gas can be recovered, and also because the generation of sludge is only one tenth of that of activated sludge process equipment.
3) The operation, maintenance and management are easier than those of activated sludge process equipment. Even the equipment is shut down for a period longer than one month, it needs no care during a period of shutdown. In addition, its operation can be resumed with only half or one day of preparatory work.
4) Commissioning can be started in a short period of time. Due to the special construction of its reactor, one month is enough for the equipment to start up for the treatment of general anaerobic sludge. For ordinary wastewater, commissioning and treatment can be started within the day because immediately adaptable granular sludge is available for delivery.
