Bio-Pop, R System

1. System Outline

Bio-pop, R is a water filtration system. Water is fed to the lower part of filtration tank and flows upward. Coagulant such as PAC is dosed to the water before the tank in some cases. The suspended solids in water are filtrated by packing in the upper part of the tank. The packing is lightweight, porous, elastic, fine plastic media of 1-5mm in diameter. Even fine particle such as algae, especially microcystis and anabaena, can be filtrated effectively, because the chink among the packing is small at filtration phase because of elastic. The packing is back-washed similarly to Bio-pop, S system.

2. Performances

Performances of actual systems are as follows:
1) SS in Raw water/Treated water: 10/0.5(mg/l) with PAC dosing
Flow rate: 20,000m3/d
Linier velocity: 10(m/h).
2) SS in Raw water/Treated water: 20-60/0-15(mg/l) with no coagulant
Flow rate: 4,000m3/d
Linier velocity: 10(m/h).
The system of above 1) is pond water purification system and 2) is tertiary treatment system of wastewater.

3. Advantages and Application

1) Advantages
- Fine particle such as algae, especially microcystis and anabaena, can be filtrated effectively.
- SS holding rate of packing is larger than other kinds of packing such as sand and anthracite, therefore backwash wastewater is smaller.
- Raw water can be used for backwash water when SS in raw water is less than 10mg/l.
- Packing can be back-washed entirely, therefore there is no trouble of mad ball forming and also no replacement of packing is required.

2) Application
The system is applied for pond water purification as circulation filtration system and tertiary treatment system of wastewater.
