METHAPELLET

1. Purpose

The METHAPELLET is an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed methane fermentation bioreactor (EGSB reactor).
EGSB process does not use any of the microorganisms' carriers but holds a sludge bed of granulated anaerobic microorganisms (granules) in an expanded condition.
The METHAPELLET can hold granules more densely than conventional reactors by improving gas separation system which makes it possible to maintain a high loading operation more than 30kg-COD/m3/d.
The wastewater treatment capacity of the METHAPELLET is 2 to 3 times larger than that of UASB reactor and 2 to 6 times larger than fixed bed anaerobic reactor.
The METHAPELLET has high degradation rate of organic substances up to 85 to 95%.

2. Performance

3. Advantages

(1) High loading performance of the METHAPELLET saves its installation area while power consumption is low and generated gas can be utilized as an energy source.
(2) Excess sludge generated rate is 1/10 of that of aerobic process, which means reducing sludge treatment cost.
(3) Simple structure of the reactor, without any incidental facilities such as filling media, enables clogging free operation and easy maintenance.
(4) Stable operation can be maintained against the fluctuation of loading because the reactor always keeps anaerobic microorganisms in active and stable condition.
