Sludge Drying and Pelletizing System (Seghers Type)1. Background
Hitachi Zosen has introduced sewage sludge drying and pelletizing equipment that aims to reduce the volume of sludge (organic waste such as sewage, night soil etc.) and to recycle it under a technical tie-up with SEGHERS Better Technology, Belgium.
2. Equipment outline
The unit consists of a dryer-pelletizer, a sludge coater and a dried pellet circulating system. The dryer-pelletizer is equipped with stacked trays and a rake to stir the sludge supplied on the tray. Dewatered sludge cake is mixed with dried pellet circulating in the sludge coater and supplied to the tray (top tray) at the top of the dryer-pelletizer. Pelletized sludge is made by rolling on the tray while being stirred by a rake and dried by the heat conducted from the high temperature thermal oil circulating in the tray. Dried and pelletized sludge is discharged from the bottom of the dryer-pelletizer.
3. Features
(1) Drying and pellet making can be accomplished simultaneously. It is a simple system that does not require a separate pellet unit.
(2) Indirect heating and drying by high temperature thermal oil. The heat required is 30% less than that of a direct dryer (by hot air).
(3) An upright dryer, which requires half the installation space of a horizontal drum dryer.
