Activated Coke Fixed Bed System (ACFB)1. Abstract
One of the maximum achievable control technology for removing of dioxins, other organic trace substances and heavy metal such as mercury of the flue gas is used by the activated coke fixed bed system (ACFB).
TAKUMA-ACFB is filled with its unique activated coke as an absorption medium to a thickness of 800 mm, and the flue gas which contains polluting trace elements such as dioxins, furans, PCB's and mercury goes perpendicularly through the layer.
Dioxins and other organic pollutants as well as heavy metals such as mercury are absorbed in the process, and it assures removal of dioxins to the level or below 0.1TEQ-ng/m3N.
ACFB doesn't make residue, because the pollutant laden coke is incinerated at an incinerator located upstream.
2. Features
1. ACFB system which have already proven themselves in Europe.
2. ACFB doesn't make residue, because the pollutant laden coke is treated thermally by its furnace
3. The integrated safety system ensures that irregular operating conditions and possible faults can be promptly recognized and controlled.
3. Performance
With treated gas temperature below 180ºC, the following results have been observed.
- Dioxins removal rate of better than 99.9%, or emission concentration of 0.1TEQ-ng/m3N or less
(below 0.01TEQ-ng/m3N under certain conditions)
- HCl emission concentration of 1ppm or less
- SOx emission concentration of 1ppm or less
- Mercury removal rate of 90-97%, or emission concentration of 0.05mg/m3N or less
4. Applications
Application field and object are as follows:
- Flue gas treatment of municipal waste incineration plants
- Flue gas treatment of industrial waste incineration plants
- Flue gas treatment of general combustion process
5. Other
ACFB is principally an absorber of trace materials. It is not a dust collector or an acid gas scrubber.
ACFB has very good dust filtration and material absorption capability, but when used as a dust collector, it consumes large amount of activated coke, making it economically ineffective.
Therefore, ACFB is located usually downstream of dust collector and the acid gas scrubber.
