Mitsui-M+W Zander Biofilter (Bio-Trickling Filter System)1. Outline
In any facility or factory, environmental measures are required to consider workers and surrounding areas. Odor in the exhaust gas is also a major cause of pollution along with contamination of air and drain and noise.
Various deodorizing units are used as the measures. However, several problems are indicated e.g. contaminants, maintenance efforts, high running cost, etc.
As a brand-new bio-trickling filter system that clears these problems, "Mitsui-M+W Zander Type Bio-Trickling Filter System" is introduced below.
2. Process Description
This system utilizes the action of microbe that decomposes and converts malodorous substances and volatile organic compounds (VOC) into odorless and harmless substances.
1) Bio-trickling filter
This filter performs conversion with microbe. The shape is a cylinder or container type, which is determined by the operating conditions, etc.
The filler material that carries microbe is made of polyurethane foam. Microbe forms laminate on the surface of the filler material, particularly in the mesh part. When exhaust gas passes through this part, microbe catches and decomposes the odor contents.
Water is sprinkled intermittently from the top of these unit. For exhaust gas flow, parallel flow or counter flow is selected depending on conditions.
2) Supply of nutritional liquid
A special nutritional liquid is supplied to effectively form the microbe laminate that decomposes the specific content to be removed.
The main contents are carbon, phosphor, nitrogen, etc. Composition of the nutritional liquid depends on the composition of exhaust gas and is adjusted with the real gas.
3) Measurement and control
Full automatic continuous operation is performed. Normally, no operator is required.
To stabilize the operation, the pressure loss, liquid level, pH value, etc. are measured and controlled. Thus, the optimum volume and activity of microbe are reserved.
3. Performance
1) No specific microbe is required.
Since microbe that exists in the natural world is used, no specific microbe is required.
2) Little secondary pollution is provided.
Little secondary contaminants and by-products are generated. Drain is little and does not require specific processing.
3) Excellent economy
Compared with systems of washing with chemical, combustion, and adsorption, the equipment cost and running cost can be reduced.
4) Wide applicable range
A wide range of odors from volatile organic compounds (VOC) to various malodors are accommodated.
5) Flexibility
Continuous operation, intermittent operation, and long-time stop can be flexibly accommodated.
6) Excellent maintainability
The structure is simple and maintenance is easy. The life of the filler material is semi-permanent and replacement is not required.
7) Energy conservation
The pressure loss of the filter is low and maintained constantly, so the fan driving energy can be reduced.
4. Application
This system is suitable for processing a large volume of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and various malodor contents. It is applicable to the following fields: Compost equipment, Various waste water processing equipment, Sludge recycling and processing center, Various waste processing equipment, RDF manufacturing equipment, Meat center, Chemical plant, Printing factory, Food plant, Painting plant, Tobacco plant, Others
5. Others
This is an ecological deodorizing system developed in Germany as an advanced country for environmental protection. This system has many satisfactory results in various industrial fields of Europe and gained high evaluation.
